Solo creator Jayenkai has announced that one-touch arcade platformer SpikeDislike3 will be out for iOS soon.

If you're not familiar with the SpikeDislike series then you certainly should be. SpikeDislike2 is especially good, so much so that I refuse to take it off my iPad.

In these games you're tasked with getting a bouncing avatar either over or under obstacles in an endless gauntlet without touching them.

It's a little like Flappy Bird, but instead of moving a character up and down your taps move them to the right.

What makes it especially rewarding, though, is that you can rack up huge bonuses for safely passing through a series of hazards without letting go of the screen. It's a game that encourages brash risk taking.

If you're a fan of soulbornes like Salt & Sanctuary and Grimvalor, Glass Heart Games’ upcoming horror-enthused hack 'n' slash ‘Vigil: The Longest Night’ is a game that should absolutely be on your radar. It’s a 2D side-scrolling action title with a strong horror element, going from subtle cosmic horror to downright nasty body horror at a moment’s notice.

It takes place in a world without sunlight. You play a Leila, a member of the Vigil, who returns to her hometown in the hope of finding her lost sister. Unfortunately for her, she’s instead cast into a world of unimaginable terror as she works to gradually uncover the town’s many secrets and the source of evil at its core.

The game boasts a detailed, immersive, and treasure-filled world for you to explore. Its art style is said to be inspired by medieval paintings and the art of Chinese paper cutting. Your lengthy adventure will see you travel from abandoned villages to dank caves to haunted forests – all filled with their own fleshy creatures of the night to take on.

In terms of the story, I’m most interested in the way it mixes Lovecraftian prose with Taiwanese culture. There’ll be multiple endings to unlock, so repeat runs are rewarded. And the game's thick atmosphere is largely achieved thanks to composer Jouni Valjakka’s deeply creepy score.

The combat will be recognisable to anyone who’s played Salt & Sanctuary or any of the earlier Castlevania games, which is to say that the mix of hack 'n' slash action and rapid-fire ranged combat looks smooth and satisfying.

At launch, there are 4 unique weapon types to experiment with, including swords, heavy weapons, bows, and twin daggers. Most of these have unlockable mystical variations to keep things fresh. It also offers a sizable skill tree which allows you to develop your own unique playstyle.

You’ll be able to start your purge of twisted monstrosities on Switch next year. Those looking for a solid alternative to tide them over should look to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Although maybe best not to play that one on Switch, what with the hefty visual downgrades and woeful performance.
Check out our news section to discover the latest, and greatest, games. Conclusion

Less than a day after the Nintendo Direct trolling, Kotaku UK suggests that we could be getting a teeny Direct sometime today complete with the announcement of Dark Souls on the Switch.

While fans have been clambering for news and begging Bandai Namco to bring Dark Souls to the Switch pretty much since the console proved its worth, there's one major question that remains to be answered: is it really a good idea?

By that I don't mean it wouldn't be fantastic to have the game on the go. As proved with games such as Stardew Valley, one of the Switch's major benefits is that you can close the console down without having to exit your game, then start it up where you left off. Sheer luxury for such a challenging game without a pause button.

No, my main concern is the frustration factor. When faced with harder elements of gaming there are two types of gamers: the insulters and the destroyers. I, myself, am an insulter. I'll breathe through every curse word and childish insult I can possibly think of at the time to make myself feel better in times of fury.

The destroyers, however, are the gamers that squeeze controllers, bash keyboards, throw phones across the room, or lash out. Considering the Switch's teeny Joy-Cons and glorious, portable nature, I'd be surprised if there weren't a few incidents waiting to happen.

What do you guys think? If this rumour proves true today, would you want Dark Souls on the Switch?
